I just graduated high school when Kent State happened. It won’t be repeated because military and law enforcement are better trained now with more competent leadership. Any order to authorize the use of deadly force would now have to go through multiple channels and the rules of engagement are much clearer now, so no, there won’t be a repeat of May 4, 1970, despite the fetid hopes of MAGA that Brown skinned people be shot & killed.
Since one of the things I respect about you is your clarity and truthfulness, I’m sure you realize and will comment that in a metro area of 12 million people, the events of the last couple days are extremely limited, involve relatively few people, and are greatly exaggerated by national media and MAGA politicians. Despite the optics, L.A. is not out of control, is not burning down and has not be taken over by any invasion force of Brown people.
I wonder what most people would do if their family members were threatened with deportation without a hearing? There is plenty of evidence out there that people have been sent out of the country who were not criminals, some who had a legal right to be here.
In Milford MA they are also grabbed an honor student junior in high school, detaining him for days often eating only crackers for dinner, who’s only crime was being brought here when he was 5. I am not sure if Leland Vitter or Fox News have been reporting on that story. I could be wrong.
I am not condoning burning cars, but resisting arrest from people who have no intent of giving you a fair hearing is understandable.
I have always respected your position on the death penalty. If I understand it correctly you believe that it is better for a murderer to live than to have one innocent person be put to death. How is this different?
You make a post about Greta Thornberg like she is a threat to anything and you call what was intended as a serious question about Trump’s immigration policy a strawman argument? That is hilarious. You’re not as intellectually consistent as you think you are.

This is a straw man argument. Nothing I said was an excuse for the excesses of the Trump administration. I don't have time for a longer response.

I like the new multi-topic format. Thanks, Ross, good stuff.
