Grok is a complete non starter. Elon freaks out every time Grok posts something Elon does not agree with and changes the program. Grok is compromised and can never be trusted. I am not sure how the public can ever trust AI because there is always a puppet master. Tell me why I am wrong?

Eventually the public will trust not just some AI but LOTS of AI, especially those specifically tailored to niche tasks in particular industries. The main reason is that AI companies will do whatever they have to do to make the systems trustworthy. I don't mean that YOU or any other particular person will necessarily have trust, but lots of people will have enough trust for these things to succeed financially, because there's no alternative.

Thanks Ross, I agree that it can be useful in many niche tasks like fixing a bike or identifying plants, and treating minor illness but I can also see AI causing panic in financial markets with sell recommendations. I can see it rewriting history for nefarious political motives and I am not sure I trust the ones who will control it. It great for black and white issues but not sure how it helps with the gray. It seems to me equivalent to letting China write the history of Tibet. “To the victors go the spoils”. I hope the good guys win this one.

I think you're massively underestimating AI. It's going to go WAY past those minor tasks you mention. It's inevitable. And it's not exactly like letting the victors write the history, or at least it doesn't have to be. Because its training comes from scouring data sources so theoretically if it had even-handed data sources it would usually put out even-handed results.

I am sure I am underestimating its value, there are huge upsides for business, medicine, weather forecasting and many other things I can’t comprehend. I am probably also over estimating the downside.
